She nodded, smiling awkwardly. “Yes… Tell me about yourself, Alex. Glockenblume has… Selective details to share.”
She’d heard about how her son’s new friend was brilliant and kind of cute and completely awesome, but she knew nothing about his life.
Alex bit down on his lower lip, not sure what to say and what to leave out. This felt like some sort of entrance exam and he desperately wanted to pass.
“I… Well, I… I live - um - a little bit out of the city, in the observatory, with—with my friends. We’re renovating,” he added, hoping that would help with the whole living in an abandoned building thing. “Being independent, you know. Um. I… I have a business. I do repairs and—and invent things, on commission. I… I graduated high shool at nine and got my first college degree at thirteen. Math and engineering, double honours. I… I’ve been thinking about. Um. Going back, too, some time and—and doing a business degree too.”
